Student Home Drives Moving from H: to G:

Wednesday, September 11, 2019

Effective September 3, 2019, student Home Drives (H: Drive) have been replaced with Google Drive File Stream (G: Drive) when using Windows computers. This will allow students to use their current TDSB Google Drive with for all their storage needs - Google Drive provides unlimited storage. There are no changes to Staff H: Drives.

Existing data in the student H: Drives will be accessible, but read-only until March Break, 2020 so that students can access and/or move any needed files. New files can only be saved to the G: Drive.

Students are responsible for transferring their own files between H: and G: drive.

This change will provide many benefits:

  • Students will be able to access their data from any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection (school, home, public library), including the Google Drive iOS or Android “Drive” app.
  • Improved collaboration among students using GSuite tools.
  • Assist our efforts to reduce IT operating costs (GSuite for Education provides unlimited storage at no additional cost to the Board).
  • Google Drive File Stream is enabled for all staff and students. This will allow files to be saved directly to your Google Drive.
