Welcome to Ellesmere-Statton Public School!
This month we have many exciting events happening both in the classroom, at lunch and afterschool.
is African Heritage Month! It is a time to celebrate the contributions,
experiences and history of African Canadians and their many accomplishments. At
Ellesmere-Statton, we will be having an art contest where students can create
Kente cloth using construction paper, pencil crayons, or even real cloth,
to design original patterns. Kente cloth is a cloth of beautiful colours and
patterns produced in many countries of West Africa. Because of its wonderful
designs and varied colours and textures, kente cloth is prized for its richness
and cultural associations. In addition to the contest, there will be a Steel
Pan presentation to the school which also celebrates Caribbean culture for
African Heritage Month.
