My name is Roula Skordakis and I am very proud to be the principal at Joyce Public School. This is my twelfth year as a principal but my fourth year at our school. I have been a school administrator for 14 years and have worked in a large partnership facility of 1,400 students (K-8), a middle school (grades 6-8) and various junior schools (K-5). I am also a mother of two children, both of whom have attended TDSB schools since junior kindergarten. I was born in Toronto and come from hard-working immigrant parents who arrived here over 55 years ago and have always lived in our great city.
Our staff is dedicated and committed to the needs of all of our learners and I am always amazed and humbled by their willingness and ability to work cohesively as a team but also to engage community partners and others to extend and enhance our students' school experiences.
As evidenced by the many awards that our staff have earned to date, they have been on the cutting-edge of technology and have been leaders in our board learning the effective use of encorporating technology in the classroom but also sharing their knowledge and expertise with colleagues and parents in our community, board and province.
We have a very diverse learning community at our school and the majority of our parents are born outside of Canada and have made Canada their new home. We have a strong home-school relationship and we welcome and value our community's input and participation in all aspects of our school experience.
I have an open-door policy and welcome parents and guardians to call and/or drop in any time to see me with comments, concerns and even compliments! Our continued growth and ongoing success at Joyce rests on the strong relationship between home and school. I am looking forward to many more achievements.
