Principal's Message

Welcome to Agnes Macphail P.S. !

Our staff are dedicated to developing the skills needed by our students to be successful members of our community and of the larger global community. We, as a community of learners and educators, understand the importance of creating opportunities for our students to achieve greater academic success. Our school has a vibrant Professional Learning Community meeting regularly to determine how we can better address the needs of our students. Furthermore, we understand the importance of using technology in the classroom to enhance our student achievement.

We are very fortunate to have a dedicated staff that understands the importance of creating opportunities for our students outside of the classroom as well. We have many extra-curricular clubs and teams to engage our students and introduce them to the many learning experiences within the GTA.

Environmental awareness and an emphasis on developing Ecological Literacy are very important to the learning goals at Agnes Macphail as well. We are currently a Platinum level Eco School and are continuing to develop initiatives to support learning in, for, and about the environment.

Parents often ask me what they can do to support their child at school. I encourage parents to be supportive by talking to them about what they are learning and ensuring that their children are aware of their daily responsibilities while at school or completing work at home (listening, using their agenda and participating) Perhaps the greatest thing a student can do to succeed at school is to read regularly for pleasure (fiction, non-fiction, magazines, internet, comics). Home reading is fundamental. We have a wonderful library here at Macphail and the local Goldhawk Public library. We encourage our students to visit the library and regularly borrow books.

I look forward to talking with our parents formally and informally, and I encourage our parents to take advantage of opportunities provided to learn more about our school improvement initiatives and how they can be supportive of our student's success.
