Sir Alexander Mackenzie Senior Public School (Grades 7 - 8)
Sir Alexander Mackenzie Senior Public School is named after Sir Alexander Mackenzie, an explorer and fur trader as well as a member of the Legislature of Lower Canada. Indigenous people shared knowledge of rivers and overland routes as well as guides. With this information and support, Sir Alexander Mackenzie explored and charted areas in Canada in the late 1700s. He was the first European to cross North America overland. During his 1789 journey, he reached the Arctic Ocean and in 1793 he reached the Pacific Ocean. The Mackenzie River, the longest river system in Canada, is named after him.
