Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a private school?
No, we are a TDSB public school. Our teachers are fully qualified. There is no cost to attend ASE 1.

Are your credits the same as other schools?
They are exactly the same. 

Can I attend ASE 1 if I have already graduated?
Yes! Many students join us to complete a fifth year of high school or to upgrade their marks in advance of applying to college and university.

When does your school year begin and end?
Our school year follows the same semestered system as most TDSB high schools. Semester 1 goes from September until the end of January, and Semester 2 goes from February to the end of June. Our student intake process begins in April for the following school year. For semester 2 entry, we begin the process in November. 

Do universities and colleges recognize your credits?
Absolutely.  There is no difference.  Many of our students receive scholarships, and most are accepted to the program of their choice.

Do you have extra-curriculars?

We do offer a limited number of extra-curricular activities; however, students are permitted to participate in sports teams, music ensembles, etc. at their home school in the TDSB.

Is your school a safe, inclusive space?
Absolutely.  We welcome students from all ethnic backgrounds, religions, sexual orientations, and gender identities. Students typically find our school to be a comfortable environment where they are free to be themselves.

Do you have a gender neutral bathroom?
Yes, all three of our bathrooms are gender neutral.

Is your school wheelchair accessible?
Sadly not.

Is there support for students with special needs?
We have full support including a Special Education Teacher, Public Health Nurse, Guidance Counsellor, Child and Youth Worker and Social Worker.

How easy is it to get to your school?
Our school is located inside Willow Park Junior Public School. We are a short walk to Lawrence Avenue, where students can access the 52 and 54 Lawrence Ave. buses.
