Primary/Junior Play: The Day Toronto Stood Still
Grades: 2-6
Number of Students: ~ 45-50 students
Rehearsals: Thursdays at lunch
Teachers: Salo & Dimitry
Play Day: TBD in June
The Day Toronto Stood Still is a heartwarming and energetic musical about community, teamwork, and belonging. When Toronto’s most famous landmarks mysteriously stop working, a group of students discover that the city hasn’t lost power - its people have. Through friendship, courage, and cooperation, they remind everyone that a city is strongest when its community works together. Featuring uplifting music and vibrant scenes from across Toronto, this joyful production celebrates the power of unity and the spirit of our city.
Intermediate Play- Fame: Deer Park is an original musical production featuring songs, dance, and dramatic scenes inspired by the vibrant energy of the 1980s. The story unfolds on “Audition Day” at Deer Park School of the Performing Arts and is loosely inspired by the film Fame.
This production reflects our school’s strong commitment to inclusivity: every student who auditioned was welcomed into the cast or crew and given a meaningful role. Nearly half of the Senior School is involved, providing students with valuable opportunities to collaborate, build confidence, develop their artistic skills, and form new friendships.

- Memory Timeline: students will be invited to add a post-it note of a memory or time they felt they shone as their truest selves
- Classes are invited to visit a variety of student-run learning stations that highlight student voice, identity and culture.
- One installation is a project that a group of Grade 7 students have been working on with an Artist in the School grant initiative. These students are making identity boxes, designing them to illustrate who they are, how they present and what they value.

- We are still open to accepting other student groups who would like to plan, organize and execute a learning station to share a part of their identity, cultural or otherwise.
Nutrition Program- Hopefully starting next month (Irene Lim and Karly Lynch)
We’re happy to announce the start of a morning student nutrition program at Deer Park. Healthy school food supports students’ daily learning, health and well-being, builds connection, and contributes to a welcoming school culture.
Every morning students will enjoy a variety of food items including fruits/vegetables, whole grains and protein (e.g. cheese or yogurt). Food choices follow the Nutrition Guidelines for student nutrition programs.
TDSB along with our partner, Toronto Foundation for Student Success, is committed to supporting the City of Toronto’s vision of a universally accessible morning meal in all schools for all students.

Staffing 2026-27
- Each spring, the TDSB goes through a staff allocation process to determine how staff are placed in schools for the upcoming school year. This planning helps ensure that every school has the staff required to support the needs of students.
- To make sure we have the appropriate staff in place for September, these decisions need to be made in the spring and are based solely on the number of anticipated students in a school, Ministry requirements and collective agreements.
- Our focus is always on equipping classrooms with the resources needed to support our students and their continued success.
- As enrolment and staffing numbers continue to fluctuate throughout the rest of the school year and over the summer, class assignments will not be shared with families until Friday, September 4, 2026. As such, final staffing models will be shared with School Councils at that time.
School Improvement
- Staff Meetings, division meetings regularly scheduled with staff
- Focus includes e.g., Indigenous education, literacy, numeracy
- Assessments (e.g., Early Development Instrument for SK, Early Reading Screening K-2)
