CyberScience is an enriched program in math, science and technology.
There are two classes of CyberScience students in Grade 9, two in Grade 10, and one in Grade 11. Students in the program travel together to their math, science and technology classes. The classes are scheduled so teachers can team teach and plan together.
Classes are scheduled tp allow for integrated projects and special activities. Teachers must enter the students in maths and science contests that are offered both at the city and provincial levels.
This year, CyberScience students have been involved in a Leadership Day and have gone to University of Toronto to investigate opportunities in Engineering and Chemistry. They are currently working on planning a Science Olympics for Grade 7 and 8 students from our local middle schools. They will also be investigating the contributions of local community service agencies and advocating for one of their choice to obtain a $5000 grant.
The CyberScience experience also continues in Grades 11 and 12 in a co-curricular manner. Students are invited to take part in a Mentorship Program with Apotex Inc. (our corporate partner). In this program, students are matched with an employee of Apotex and spend a number of hours discussing educational paths and career opportunities during their first semester in Grade 11. Students in Grade 12 are invited to the Technology Showcase, an event hosted by Apotex that provides hands-on activities in chemistry, packaging and information technology.
The CyberScience students are very involved in school leadership. They participate in most of the special activities that are offered at Emery: the Duke of Edinburgh Program, Robotics, the Innovator's Fair, STEPs, etc. They also are involved infor student government and are very active in our community.
