Parents are an invaluable part of the education process and as such, are encouraged to be part of the George B. Little PS learning community. Through positive interactions, parents and teachers can work together to help students reach their full potential.

At George B. Little PS, we offer many programs that enhance the classroom experience of our students:

Special Education

George B Little P.S. has a special education department that provides service for students in our Junior and Intermediate divisions. We follow the Community Based Resource Model (CBRM) which encompasses many components as set out by the TDSB policy.

Students are individuals and therefore learn in different ways. The special education program seeks to address the different needs and differentiated learning that a child requires. Each school board is required to maintain a special education plan which is reviewed annually and adjusted as necessary. When staff members or parents express concerns regarding a student, that student can be discussed during an In-School Support Team (IST) meeting to determine if there are any services that may be of benefit. If it is determined that a child is in need of support services, the child will next be discussed at a School Support Team (SST) meeting. It is at the SST that decisions will be made to proceed with testing or social work. Parents are always welcome to attend and contribute information. If it is determined that a student has special needs he or she will then receive an Individual Education Plan (IEP). An IEP is an individualized program tailored to the needs of that specific child. The IEP is a working document and is modified as required throughout the school year. Parents are encouraged to contribute to their child's IEP in collaboration with their teacher(s). Marks on a report card will then reflect the IEP which may have different expectations from that of the regular class.

Snack Program

To assist children to have a great start to the day, George B Little PS runs a snack program. Every morning children are provided with snacks like fruit or bagels with cream cheese so they may start the day properly. Without a full stomach students are unable to concentrate in class and therefore are unable to learn. The cost of providing healthy snacks for our children is high, but the program is very important as every child should have the right to nutritious foods and no child can learn when they are hungry. Our program is funded by grants and donations. If you are able to donate please contact the school directly.

School Council

School councils are an excellent way for parents to get involved in their child`s education. Our school has an elected school council that is an important forum for involving all members of the school community in issues that affect the education of students. The school council is made up of an elected committee of parents, staff and student representatives, appointed community members, the principal, and a general membership which includes all parent of children attending the school. The school council advises the principal on a variety of issues and activities relating to student achievement, curriculum goals and priorities, school budget priorities, school safety, renovation plans, after school activities, and criteria for selection of new principals.

On-Line Learning

While the internet can be a great tool in enhancing one's knowledge and education, it is strongly recommended that parents pay close attention to what your children are doing on the computer. The Toronto District School Board has its own Code of Online Conduct which must be agreed to and signed by a parent or guardian before a student is allowed to use the internet at school.
