Literacy

Literacy @ Vanier

All Ontario Curriculum Guidelines incorporate the instruction and practicing of literacy
skills. Literacy skills are taught in all courses, across all subject areas, throughout all
grades. Here are some of our literacy resources and initiatives:

OSSLT test OSSLT Updates: Visit the “OSSLT Updates” link to see any important announcements regarding the OSSLT this school year.
OSSLT Guide 2022-2023 Vanier’s OSSLT Preparation Guide Visit this slide deck that provides students with an overview of the OSSLT including frequently asked questions,
the format of the OSSLT, as well as resources and practice questions.
Literacy Literacy Support Classes - Through the winter and spring we will be running additional literacy support classes in preparation for the spring OSSLT.  These classes typically run afterschool weekly.
practice Mock OSSLT Test – In Semester 1, all eligible students can write a Mock OSSLT assessment.  This condensed test allows students to experience the format of the OSSLT test and to receive feedback on their responses.
Feeddback Descriptive Feedback - In February, students that were unsuccessful in the previous year’s OSSLT will have an individual conference with a teacher allowing the student to understand what areas of the OSSLT they may have had difficulty with and what areas they had success.
Online OSSTL Online OSSLT Practice Test - Students can become familiar with the online test’s platform and tools. The online practice test comprises two sessions, which include content from previous tests. The practice test is equivalent to the two sessions students will be completing during the OSSLT.
