Proof of Date of Entry

To prove when your child arrived in Canada (if they weren't born here):

  • If you're a permanent resident or refugee, you can sign up your child at school.
  • Even if you don't have legal immigration status, your child can still go to school. We won't tell immigration authorities about your situation.
  • You just need to show some papers with your child's name, birthdate, address, where they're from, and when they came to Canada. It could be a passport, birth certificate, or old immigration papers.
  • If you can't get those papers, a letter from a respected person in Toronto can help. It could be your doctor, shelter director, or a faith leader.
  • Most schools can sign up your child. But if you can't get the right papers, they might send you to the International Students and Admissions Office at 5050 Yonge Street (main floor).
