Dear Parents/Guardians/Students of Highfield JS,
We are starting a new Eco initiative called Boomerang Lunches from November 28, 2018 onwards.
We ask all students that eat lunch at Highfield to take all contents including used containers, wrappers, and other packaging (including garbage) home once lunch is complete. Why are we doing this? Here are the benefits:
- Allows students more time to play and less time to clean up their garbage during lunchtime
- Allows parents/guardians to see how much of the packed lunches students actually eat, inviting conversations about choices and amounts included in lunches
We encourage all students to pack a waste-free lunch (food and drinks in resealable containers) since this will decrease landfill waste and teach our students to be more ecologically responsible. To this end, our Eco team will continue to monitor for and honour students and classes that bring waste-free lunches. To help students take home leftovers and waste, please ensure your child packs a large empty ziplock bag or other container in their lunchbags to be used to transport leftover food and/or waste.
