HCI Weekly Bulletin

Weekly Bulletin - October 13, 2025

Tuesday, October 14, 2025 09:09 AM

Good morning HCI,

The school is settling into a nice rhythm as we head into the Fall season and we are about four weeks away from the midterm reporting period. However, you will be receiving an internal mark update by the end of next week; which helps facilitate early and appropriate interventions to be put in place to ensure students are feeling success and support. More information is below about how you can expect to receive this update. As a reminder, we encourage you to reach out directly to your child's classroom teacher should you have questions and concerns (as per the TDSB Parent/Caregiver Concern Protocol), to allow teachers to explain their program, supports and to create a strong school-home connection.

Please see below for important information about the upcoming week.

Humberside Celebrates

On Thursday of this week, we had the entire grade nine class, along with peer leaders and staff supervisors, take part in the annual Grade Nine High Park Day. This day is a tradition that allows for students to bond, get to know the peer leaders and learn important skills related to cooperation, creativity, problem solving and team spirit. It was a fantastic day with no rain!

Have a look here at the full group!

Academic Info

Informal Mark Update→ Please expect to have an informal mark update communicated to you and your child by the end of next week (Oct. 16th). This could be through a variety of methods: email, phone calls, online learning platforms, print outs provided to the student. This is not an official reporting period; rather a check in to ensure families and students are clear on their progress to date. Should a student be at risk of failing at this early stage, please expect a call from the subject teacher to develop a plan to provide support.

School Business

How do you speak to your child about lates? Here at Humberside we hold high expectations for our students. This includes attending classes on time, prepared to learn. Our teachers are counselling their classes, providing remediation and reinforcement regarding unexplained lates, and our administration will begin running reports that show where unexplained lateness is a pattern in order to address the behaviour with students. However, we need your help too. When/if you receive a call that your child was late to class, here are some questions, from an educator's perspective, that you can ask them: What caused you to be late this time? How can you make a different decision next time to ensure you are not late? Is there something in your daily routine that needs to change to ensure you are not late? Did you speak to the teacher, at an appropriate time, to explain the lateness and ensure you can get caught up? Thank you for your partnership to ensure our HCI students reach our expectations that lead to success!

Student Council Update

Hey Humberside! Student council had a very successful election last week with so much interest. We had more grade 9s applying then the last two elections combined! HCI's new grade 9 representatives are Isla Blamire, Elysee-Noelle Luong, Findlay Kung, Eloise Adair Rooney, and Dani Sandhu. We had our first meeting with them this week and they all seem very eager to help out the school and bring spirit to our community. Thank you to all other applicants and we hope to see you at our next events! - SAC
