Black Heritage Association Assembly (February 14, 2023)

Congratulation to the Black Heritage Association on an a fantastic, informative, interactive and engaging assembly for our HCI students.

During the assembly, our students were inspired by our guest motivational speaker, Jeff A.D. Martin who was very thought-provoking.  Students had the opportunity to listen to our music stage band perform Stand by Me,  learn about microaggressions, engage in a live triva game, listen to a performance of the spoken word, black love, and allyship. The assembly then culminated in an engaging fashion show.

Kudos to Mr. Campbell, Ms. Moore, and Ms. Kress for being the staff advisors and organizing the assembly.

Happy World Teachers' Day 2022

Each year UNESCO reveals a different theme for World Teachers’ Day, with the 2022 theme being: “The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers.”

We want to honour all of our Humberside C.I. teachers who help cultivate our future leaders.  By setting a sense of community and belonging in the classroom, setting high expectations for all students, instilling the love of learning for all students, and providing experiential opportunities in and outside of the classroom, our students not only succeed but also excel.

TDSB Recognizes Orange Shirt Day on September 30

Friday, September 30th is both Orange Shirt Day and the second annual National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, a federal statutory holiday.

Established in 2013, Orange Shirt Day was inspired by Phyllis Webstad, who was excited to wear her new orange shirt to her first day of school in 1973. However, when she arrived at St. Joseph Mission Residential School, her shirt was taken and never returned. From that day forward, the colour orange, for Phyllis, “reminded me of that [moment] and how my feelings didn’t matter, how no one cared and I felt like I was worth nothing. All of us little children were crying and no one cared.”

Now, on this day, we recognize the legacy of the residential school system for First Nations, Métis and Inuit families and communities.

We acknowledge the legacy of residential schools in Canada by wearing orange and we honour the survivors. We remember the thousands of children who were murdered and buried in unmarked graves.

On Friday, September 30, 2022 wear orange to participate in Orange Shirt Day.

Welcome to Humberside Collegiate Institute

felix qui potuit rerum cognoscere causas - happy is the person who has been able to learn the reasons of things

Humberside Collegiate Institute was established in 1892 and continues to serve the ambitious, academically inclined young people of the High Park area. The building is beautiful and old on the outside but bright and modern on the inside.

Our school helps students to become responsible, capable, and caring citizens with a lifelong curiosity and the desire for excellence. It does so in a supportive and co-operative atmosphere of mutual respect.

The Humberside graduate will be a well-rounded person whose intellectual, psychological, and physical needs have been addressed. The graduates will have had many opportunities to develop themselves through both curricular and co-curricular activities.ECO Emblem

The Humberside community has worked hard to implement a number of environmental initiatives. Led by the enthusiastic Humberside Environmental Action Team (H.E.A.T.) we have worked hard to lessen our footprint, become more sustainable and to inform students, and the community at large, of important environmental practices and events.

The hard work of everyone at Humberside has resulted in our 'Gold Ecoschools' accreditation. However, we believe we can do better, and as such, are striving for Platinum certification at the end of this year!
