HCI Weekly Bulletin

Weekly Bulletin - March 9, 2026

Monday, March 09, 2026 08:17 AM

Good morning HCI,

We had a great week last week, with students competing at OFSAA for both wrestling and swimming, many of our winter sport athletes competed in the finals of their season and our intramurals are a big hit! As well, we had a chance to celebrate Iftar with our students and school community.

As we head into the final week before the March Break, it is a good idea to speak to your HCI student about any loose ends they need to wrap up before taking a true break to be with family and friends. Teachers will not be assigning work over the break, as per TDSB policy, but in order to ensure a break can be enjoyed, please encourage your child to use this upcoming week to check in with teachers about any outstanding work.

Final Reminder – Yearbook & Student Activity Fee

Only students who have paid the Student Activity Fee for the 2025–2026 school year will receive a yearbook. After this deadline, the school will not be able to order additional copies. To support school activities and ensure your HCI student receives a yearbook, please make sure the fee has been paid.

Student Activity Fee: $70
Payment Link: Semester 2 module
Deadline: Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at 11:59 PM

This is the last opportunity to complete the payment to receive a yearbook.

Humberside Celebrates

Iftar --> On Thursday March 5, HCI held its 3rd annual Iftar night hosted by our Muslim Students Association. It was a free event open to students, staff and their families. The evening was filled with prayer, student voice presentations and of course, lots of delicious food. Thank you to Ms. Abdi, Ms. Arif and Ms. Mussee for helping to organize this amazing event. Ramadan Mubarak

The Garnet --> For this issue, The Garnet has been lucky enough to obtain interviews and photos from students in HCI that are passionate about photography! We received images from the media studies classes, photography club, and more! There are so many passions, talents, and skills held by students at Humberside, and the Garnet is so glad to be able to showcase the photography passions of students. Enjoy!

Worth Repeating

  1. Mark Update --> Please expect to have an informal mark update communicated to you and your child leading up to March 23rd. This could be through a variety of methods: email, phone calls, online learning platforms, print outs provided to the student. This is not an official reporting period; rather a check in to ensure families and students are clear on their progress to date. Should a student be at risk of failing at this early stage, please expect a call from the subject teacher to develop a plan to provide support. This informal mark update can also help you determine if a Parent/Caregiver interview should be booked. If your child is thriving academically and social-emotionally, we would ask you to consider not booking an appointment. There are limited spots available, and teachers would like to prioritize partnering with families to create a success plan where needed.

HCI Peer Tutoring --> The Peer Tutoring Program at HCI continues to offer support and is welcoming new learners! Tutors and learners meet every Thursday at lunch in room 216. Students should complete this google form - LINKED HERE to be matched with a tutor. After completing the form they should come to room 216 Thursday at lunch and meet their matched tutor in person.
