HCI Weekly Bulletin

Weekly Bulletin - March 23, 2026

Monday, March 23, 2026 11:04 AM

Happy Friday HCI,

We have made it to a well deserved March Break! A big thank you to our Caretaking crew that has been out cleaning up as the snow melts and reveals the debris. You will see in the School Council section that a planned clean up is in the calendar for April. We will be focussing our efforts on the tennis courts, in an effort to get them 'classroom ready' for the warmer weather. While I am not fooled into believing we are into full spring weather yet; it has been nice to have a few sunny days.

We have a busy week after our March Break, with parent/caregiver-teacher interviews, spring team meetings, our Greek Cafe, Games Day and more! You will find more details on these events below and don't forget to check out the Spring Teams link in HAC Highlights of the Week.

I am wishing everyone a fun fill March Break!

Humberside Celebrates

Ontario Business Educators' Association (OBEA) Teacher Award --> After careful consideration, the Committee with OBEA has selected Ms. Foley as this year’s recipient of this prestigious award! This award honours a teacher who has received provincial recognition for outstanding teaching and whose efforts demonstrate a commitment that exceeds regular teaching responsibilities. Please join me in congratulating Ms. Foley.

A Window into the School

Taiko Drumming --> This past week we had the pleasure of hosting a workshop with the Taiko Drumming. A group of students spent time in our auditorium learning the basics of this drumming style and I was impressed with how quickly they picked it up! Thank you to Mr. Jang for arranging this interactive workshop.

Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) --> From Ms. Martins: This year for the first time, HCI participated in the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Spring Leadership Conference. Students from all grade levels were able to learn about a career path in Health and compete to showcase their learning. This national conference was attended by nearly 9000 high school students from across Canada. The 34 HCI students that competed showed themselves well in diverse fields from sports medicine, to clinical nursing, to forensic science, and more. The conference also brought health professionals that led a series of workshops which students attended. The most popular for our school was Essential Suturing Techniques, and an event with the Sunshine Therapy Dogs. I am proud and pleased to announce that one of our grade 11 teams, Calla A, Kate J-M, and Julia G., made it to the final round for their research presentation on "Food Wars: Battling Big Soda and Ultra-Processed Foods". I am incredibly impressed with the hard work and effort that each and every student put into their event. Thank you for all the support from the admin and our community. We look forward to seeing what our students can do next year!
