Good afternoon HCI,
It was lovely to see our school full of parents, caregivers, staff and students last night at our semester two interview night. Our Peer Leaders did a wonderful job of keeping everyone on time and where they needed to be - thank you to the whole Peer Leader Team. If you were unable to speak with your child's teacher and you feel they would benefit from academic or social-emotional support, please reach out to the teachers via email or phone call. Alternately, you may wish to contact the alpha guidance counsellor for a more team based approach.
Please see below for more information on the coming week.

A Window into the School
Staff Professional Learning --> Every month, we have two late start mornings. One of these mornings is set aside for our staff meetings and the other is dedicated to our Professional Learning Communities (PLC). This month, our staff built their collective efficacy as they learned from each other by attending 2 out of 5 sessions offered. The sessions connect to our School Improvement Plan (SIP) and are designed to share best practices and share the excellent work that is happening in the classrooms in our school. Our sessions were as follows: Differentiating Assessments for English Language Learners; Cross Curricular Outdoor Learning; Strengthening Learning Skills; Tools for Assessment and Evaluation; and PowerTeacher (our online software system). Thank you to Ms. Saba, Ms. Tsanos; Ms. Majzoub; Ms. Foley and Mr. Bangma for sharing our knowledge with the staff.
School Business
Evacuation Site --> HCI students attend our start of year assembly in September of every year, wherein we cover the expectations of HCI, safety procedures included. The Conduct Assembly Slides are available on our School Website Home Page. However, I want to ensure that the entire community is reminded of the evacuation site for HCI: Annette Street Junior and Senior Public School (on the corner of Clendenan and Annette). In the rare case that this site is not accessible, staff and students should find a local site that can safely shelter them until further information can be provided.
Did You Know?
Specialized Summer Learning for Students with Autism --> The TDSB is pleased to offer a specialized summer learning opportunity for students with autism entering grades 4 to 10 in September (currently in grades 3 to 9). The program will run half-days from July 6 to July 30. There will be online and limited in-person classes. Please see this information letter and fill out this form before April 17th if you are interested (Spaces are limited, first-come, first-served basis).

School Council
Looking for ways to get engaged in the Humberside community? Join your friends, neighbours and Humberside Parent Council, for our Humberside Parent Council Spring Clean-Up!
When: Saturday, April 25, 10am-12pm, as part of the City-wide clean-up weekend, Clean Toronto Together.
What: The Humberside tennis courts (where Glendonwynne Rd. meets Quebec Ave., just west of the main driveway)
Why: The school's tennis courts are in rough shape. The area gets heavily used by the community for other activities, including as an off-leash dog park. Gym classes often have to wait for community members to leave the courts, and the caretakers clean up a whole lot of dog waste. We are hoping that if we tidy the adjacent gardens, clean up the tennis courts, and install some signage, we can make it clear to our neighbours that the courts are a classroom and a vital part of our school.
Who: Parents, caregivers, students, and neighbours are all welcome! Volunteer hours available for high school students.
Sounds great! How can I help?
you'd like to join us for the clean-up, please sign up at the link below so we know how many people to expect. All materials and light snacks will be provided. SIGN UP
you can't join us but would like to donate to our Spring Clean-Up, you can do that, too. DONATE
Any questions? Want to donate snacks or coffee? Please reach out to us at [email protected].
"Just Ask Jessica" --> Do you have a question for Principal Pearson? Submit it to us by email at [email protected]. We will group and summarize relevant questions for Ms. Pearson before our next meeting. You can attend the meeting to hear the answers, or read them afterward in our meeting minutes. All questions will be kept anonymous. This feature is for general topics only, not for questions about individual students or teachers.
Happy Friday!
