Happy Thursday HCI,
It has been a quick week here at HCI and we will have an equally short week next week; we hope everyone enjoys the long weekend with friends and family alike.
A brief update on our facilities, specifically at Exit 6 (the main doors into the building off Clendenan). If you drive or walk by that door, you will notice a temporary scaffolding fence that has been installed, re-routing the walking path. Students, staff and community can still enter that way when the door is opened (before school) and can exit that way at the end of the day or to access Portable 1. The fence is there while they assess the work that needs to be completed on the chimney, thus allowing folks to be a distance away from the building should there be any falling debris. Thank you for your understanding.
Please see below for important information.

Humberside Celebrates
The Garnet --> For this issue, The Garnet is happy to announce that we have been able to work with HAC to highlight some of the students in the club who are graduating! HAC plays a huge role in our school, and we want to acknowledge the students who are leaving this year. As HAC is such a big club with many graduates, we created one issue based around them, and will get in touch with other clubs for our final issue of the year to celebrate the other members of clubs who are graduating! Have a great weekend, Huskies!
Cheer Team Success --> On March 25th, Humberside's Cheerleading Team competed for the second year in a row at OFSAA's Metro Cheerleading Competition where they placed an amazing 4th place out of seven teams. They performed their amazing routine demonstrating their outstanding skills and awe-dropping stunts. We can't wait to see what they do next. Congratulations Huskies!

School Business
Reporting absences and the Connection to Assessment and Evaluation → Did you know that when a student's absence is not reported by a parent/guardian via the school messenger app or through a phone call to the office, then the student is marked absent as ‘unexplained’. Should your child have an assessment/evaluation or important in class participation that day; the teacher is under no obligation to provide a make-up day for that learning. From the teacher’s perspective, the absence was not excused by a parent/guardian and is seen as ‘skipping’. Please do you best to report absences in advance and/or on the same day as it occurs so that teachers have the most accurate information possible.
