Humberside Celebrates
The Garnet --> The Olympics are always a special time. The celebration of sports is a value that many students of Humberside hold, and the Garnet is happy to announce that our Olympic issue is now out on our website! Humberside has always prided itself on its success in sports, and it is something that has helped define students and our whole school community. We were able to have writers and artists speak on the different types of athletics you may find during the winter Olympics, explain views on what sports are the most entertaining to watch, and highlight some amazing moments for Winter Olympic Athletes!
A Window into the Classroom
Vaughan International Film Festival Official Selection --> Please join me in congratulating our very own Kaya Z. on her film, "Hydroplane" that was submitted to the student section of the Vaughan International Film Festival and was nominated as an Official Selection. "Hydroplane" was produced this year in the grade 12 course of Communications Technology-Video /Film and It will be screened during our HCI Arts Night on May 1st, along with other remarkable film works produced by our students.

Social Media & Safety: A Parent's Roadmap --> On April 23rd, parents and caregivers are invited to an evening event to better understand the digital world young people are navigating every day. We will talk openly about online exploitation, sextortion and AI, and harmful digital behaviours, while keeping the focus on practical, realistic ways to support children’s safety and well-being online. This session is about building confidence, not fear. You will leave with clear strategies, conversation starters, and tools to help your child make safer choices, set healthy boundaries, and know when and how to ask for help.
- April 23 from 6 to 8 p.m.
- Weston CI (100 Pine St, Toronto, ON)
Register here through the online form
Food will be served, childcare is available, and community partners will be present. We hope you will join us for an evening of learning, connection, and shared care. Questions? Contact [email protected].

School Council
Donations for Technology --> Our Fall Fundraiser was a great success. We used the funds raised to buy a new guitar for musical performances, materials for the Humberside Archives, and to buy new protective mats for the walls in the upper and lower gyms.
We’ve reopened the donation page for this month only to address urgent technology needs that the school is facing. Our school is losing PCs as they hit their "end of life", and with the Chromebook program still on pause, our students are losing vital tools.
If you missed the November window, now is the time to act. Donations will go to supporting the renewal of in-school technology to benefit all students.

Spring Clean-Up --> Looking for ways to get engaged in the Humberside community? Join your friends, neighbours and Humberside Parent Council, for our Humberside Parent Council Spring Clean-Up!
When: Saturday, April 25, 10am-12pm, as part of the City-wide clean-up weekend, Clean Toronto Together.
What: The Humberside tennis courts (where Glendonwynne Rd. meets Quebec Ave., just west of the main driveway)
Why: The school's tennis courts are in rough shape. The area gets heavily used by the community for other activities, including as an off-leash dog park. Gym classes often have to wait for community members to leave the courts, and the caretakers clean up a whole lot of dog waste. We are hoping that if we tidy the adjacent gardens, clean up the tennis courts, and install some signage, we can make it clear to our neighbours that the courts are a classroom and a vital part of our school.
Who: Parents, caregivers, students, and neighbours are all welcome! Volunteer hours available for high school students.
If you'd like to join us for the clean-up, please sign up at the link below so we know how many people to expect. All materials and light snacks will be provided.

Next Meeting --> The next HCI Parent Council meeting is on Tuesday, April 28 at 6:30pm in the school library. Join us to hear updates from Principal Pearson and student leaders. Everyone is welcome!
"Just Ask Jessica": Do you have a question for Principal Pearson? Submit it to us by email at [email protected]. We will group and summarize relevant questions for Ms. Pearson before our next meeting. You can attend the meeting to hear the answers, or read them afterward in our meeting minutes. All questions will be kept anonymous. This feature is for general topics only, not for questions about individual students or teachers.
Happy Friday!
