HCI Weekly Bulletin

Weekly Bulletin - April 27, 2026

Friday, April 24, 2026 03:54 PM

Good afternoon HCI,

This week has offered up the opportunity to reflect on the importance of stewardship. HCI marked Earth Day by having our HEAT assembly (thank you to our HEAT club and the staff supervisors for all the hard work!), and through our 20 minute clean up opportunity. Many classes took the time to head outside (it was a beautiful day!) and spend 20 minutes taking care of our shared community. As we work to instill values of what it means to be a Humberside Citizen; it is experiences like this that put our words into action. I continue to be inspired by the dedication and perseverance of our student body and HCI staff!

As a reminder, our school council and volunteers will be at the school on Saturday (from 10-12) in order to continue this theme and show some love to our Tennis Courts! If we need to postpone due to inclement weather, I will send a message via email with a rain date.

Please see below for important information for the upcoming week.

Humberside Celebrates

Humberside Robotics Team → Our HCI Robotics Team recently completed their run at Provincials, this past weekend, after finishing at the qualification round. Throughout the competition season, they displayed tenacity and fought very hard throughout all their games. Through it all, they displayed ingenuity in between their qualification games, and frequently even repaired their robot, going so far as to fix and have a climber in time for provincials! The students and school should be very proud of the way in which they represented our school. Congratulations to the team and thank you for all your hard work!

Worth Repeating

Missed Evaluations Reminder --> Please note that family vacations are not considered a legitimate absence. Every effort should be made to avoid scheduling family vacations during school time. Holiday dates are published in the school calendar and on the TDSB website, http://www.tdsb.on.ca. In the event of a missed evaluation due to a family vacation, teachers are not required to provide an alternative form of evaluation. In the case of examinations, no make-up exam or alternative arrangements will be made. In person students will not be made Virtual Learners in order to accommodate.

Did You Know

Sleep Hygiene → Many of our high school aged students find themselves slipping into a sleep routine that has them up late at night and waking up very tired! A topic that is often discussed with students by our support team: guidance counselors, child and youth worker, social work. In order to support this, our team educates student on the topic of sleep hygiene and how to be in control of your healthy sleep routines.

Here are some tips from the TDSB’s Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy department:

Daytime Habits

  • Exposure to natural light
  • Morning routine
  • Exercise
  • Limit naps
  • Decrease caffeine intake

Evening Habits

  • Slowly cutdown on exciting activities
  • Start dimming lights, close curtains
  • Shut down screens 30 minutes before bedtime
  • Create a bedtime routine to signal it is time to go to sleep
  • Set up your sleep environment to support sleep
