Good morning HCI,
May is going to bring a lot of fun events for our staff and students, some of those events will be in preparation of our 2026-2027 school year (SAC Elections, Pinecrest Leadership Retreat, celebrating our Arts Departments) and some will be as a way to help our graduates transition to their post secondary plans (Prom, Valedictorian Elections). Through all of this fun, we are also helping out students keep the 'eye on the prize' of achievement and classroom engagement. Please continue to encourage your child to remain vigilant with their attendance and school deadlines, so that they can head into their culminating activities and exams in a strong position.
Please see below of important information for the upcoming week.

Humberside Celebrates
College Board Forum --> Early in April, HCI's grade 12 student, Hadiya M., attended the College Board Forum in Vancouver at Simon Fraser University with two other TDSB students from Thistletown CI (Emmanuel) and Birchmount Park CI (Damian). The Conference was about centering the voices of youth from different provinces, especially Indigenous and Black youth, in order to look at systemic changes needed within high school and post secondary institutions. Hadiya presented research that was generated through her summer research job with TDSB’s Center of Excellence for Black Student Achievement. Hadiya’s research, based in Afrocentricity, was specific to the reasons why Black students are not entering the field of law. She represented HCI and the Center of Excellence for Black Student Achievement and made us all very proud!

School Business
Staff Parking Lot --> Please be advised that the staff parking lot is not for student drop off. It is not safe for students to be dropped off in this space as it creates additional traffic going in multiple directions. Please drop off your students in the key or on a street adjacent to the school.
Missed Evaluations Reminder --> Please note that family vacations are not considered a legitimate absence. Every effort should be made to avoid scheduling family vacations during school time. Holiday dates are published in the school calendar and on the TDSB website, http://www.tdsb.on.ca. In the event of a missed evaluation due to a family vacation, teachers are not required to provide an alternative form of evaluation. In the case of examinations, no make-up exam or alternative arrangements will be made. In person students will not be made Virtual Learners in order to accommodate.
*Please note that this Evaluation Reminder also applies to summer plans that may begin before the academic year comes to an end. Please do not book summer plans to begin during the examination or culminating period.

We'd like to thank David Wang, Humberside parent and President of the Howard Park Tennis Club, for donating two tennis nets to the school. The nets will go a long way towards sprucing up the courts and are much appreciated.
Happy Friday!
