HCI Weekly Bulletin

Weekly Bulletin - May 18, 2026

Tuesday, May 19, 2026 09:25 AM

Good afternoon HCI,

It has been great to see how many students are putting their name in the ring for one of our many student leadership positions. There are so many different ways to lead, sometimes it is with a formalized position, sometimes it is through participation within an organized club/team/association/event, and sometimes it is just through the day to day interactions our HCI students have. We are working hard at helping our students understand what it means to be a 'Humberside Citizen' and we are so pleased to see it in action every day!

I would like to take a moment to address school sanctioned events versus unsanctioned events. Please note that any school event will be both advertised via official school channels (the bulletin and the school calendar) and will be supervised by HCI staff. If your child is attending an event, that may seem like an HCI tradition but it does not have TDSB staff present, then it is not a school sanctioned event. Students that are attending events outside of school that result in a negative effect on the school climate or pose a safety risk, can be investigated and school based consequences may apply.

Please see below for important updates for the upcoming week.

Humberside Celebrates

Camp Pinecrest --> Some of our student leaders have just returned from a fantastic experience learning about leadership styles and strategies, so that they can bring that back to the clubs, teams and associations they contribute to. Thank you to our Peer Leaders, HAC and SAC, along with the staff supervisors (Ms. Bernknopf, Mr. Matheson, Ms. Bumstead and Mr. Seidu)

Academic Info

Culminating Activities --> Teachers will begin introducing the culminating activities that students will complete as a part of their final 30% mark. Each course has its own mark breakdown that is communicated via the course outline. It is always a good idea to ask your child to review this document in order to be clear on final expectations and tasks. Some courses may only have a culminating, whereas others may have a combination of a culminating task and an exam. Demonstration of learning for culminating tasks is primarily completed in class under the teacher's supervision; therefore attendance remains very important up until the last day of classes.

Missed Evaluations → Please note that family vacations are not considered a legitimate absence. Every effort should be made to avoid scheduling family vacations during school time. Holiday dates are published in the school calendar and on the TDSB website, http://www.tdsb.on.ca. In the event of a missed evaluation due to a family vacation, teachers are not required to provide an alternative form of evaluation. In the case of examinations, no make-up exam or alternative arrangements will be made. In person students will not be made Virtual Learners in order to accommodate.
*Please note that this Evaluation Reminder also applies to summer plans that may begin before the academic year comes to an end. Please do not book summer plans to begin during the examination or culminating period.

School Business

1:1 Chromebook Device Collection (Grade 12s) --> Please note that all graduating students that were provided a device by the TDSB are to return the device as soon as they no longer require the use of it. We are not permitted to load out the 1:1 devices during the summer (should you be taking a summer course). Please return your device to the library.
