HCI Weekly Bulletin

Weekly Bulletin - May 25, 2026

Friday, May 22, 2026 04:32 PM

Good Morning HCI,

As a principal, my number one concern is the safety and well-being of the HCI community. With this in mind, I would ask that you have a conversation with your HCI student about the trend of Urbexing - Urban Exploring. There is a growing trend for people to 'explore' urban areas (often with the use of a crowbar) where they are not permitted to be: rooftops, abandoned buildings, tunnels, construction sites, while capturing this exploration on social media (primarily TikTok and SnapChat). As you can imagine, there are serious safety concerns with this trend along with real life consequences when police become involved.

On another point of safety, in the last month, we have had multiple community members and our own teachers report near miss accidents with students as they cross the streets near our school. sometimes the nice weather creates a sense of relaxation on the 'rules of the road', please continue to urge your children to exercise caution on the busy streets.

Finally, I would ask you to continue to speak to your HCI student about the need to continue to put every effort possible into the final weeks of this semester. If you are a junior student, this is the time to ensure you head into your exams with a the strongest mark possible. If you are senior level student, it is incredibly important to keep your marks at a level that allows you to successfully move into the next phase of your life. Remember that be post secondary acceptance offers are still contingent on your final grades!

Let's finish safe and strong HCI!

Worth Repeating

Missed Evaluations → Please note that family vacations are not considered a legitimate absence. Every effort should be made to avoid scheduling family vacations during school time. Holiday dates are published in the school calendar and on the TDSB website, http://www.tdsb.on.ca. In the event of a missed evaluation due to a family vacation, teachers are not required to provide an alternative form of evaluation. In the case of examinations, no make-up exam or alternative arrangements will be made. In person students will not be made Virtual Learners in order to accommodate.
*Please note that this Evaluation Reminder also applies to summer plans and jobs that may begin before the academic year comes to an end. Please do not book summer plans to begin during the examination or culminating period.

2026–27 School Year Calendar Now Available --> The TDSB has released next year's academic calendar. I have linked it with the Week at a Glance section for ease and Families can visit the TDSB website to explore key dates, holidays, PA Days, and all school year calendars.

School Business

Bomb Threat Education --> Next week, the Day 1/Pd 1 classes will be taking some time to learn about the details of a bomb threat drill. Teachers will use a resource that has been created from the TDSB's PR695- Threats to School Safety. to discuss what the student responsibilities would look like if the school were to initiate a bomb threat procedure. This will only be a 'stop and talk' discussion, students will not be physically practicing the drill at this point, as the first step is to learn what the procedure entails. Teachers have previously practiced a full drill, without students present, in order to ensure they understand their roles and responsibilities.

Moratorium --> Before every exam period, TDSB high schools are expected to have a 4 day Moratorium, as set out by P063 . During this time, there should be no: excursions; assemblies (except in extenuating circumstances); shortened instructional days; conferences or meetings that remove teachers from their schools; interschool activities; projects or assignments for students writing an examination; culminating activities for students writing an examination; homework. These 4 days are important for students

From the Humberside Library --> Library books should be returned by Wednesday June 10th to avoid having to pay for unreturned books. If books are damaged or lost, please pay for them through School Cash Online https://tdsb.schoolcashonline.com/Fee/Details/282812/153/False/True.
