Good morning HCI,
We had a fantastic presentation last night from our Guidance Department, to support families and students that are at the exciting stage of post-secondary applications. There was a great turnout with a lot of very helpful information. If you were unable to make the event, please know that we will be sharing the presentation with all the important dates on our school website; and, as always, please reach out to the alpha guidance counsellor for support as needed.
Did you know we have a brand new Huskies Sports Center? This is a great way to see what is happening with our competitive and intramural athletics at the school. A huge thank you to Ms. Nicolopoulos for all her work in setting up this incredible resource that keeps our students and families 'In the Know'.
Are you receiving calls from the school to indicate that your HCI student is absence - Unexplained (A190)? If so, please ensure you take the time to set up your School Messenger App (info below) to be able to excuse the absence when appropriate. Our VP secretaries have begun making calls, as possible, to follow up with families when there is an unexcused absence in the system. Should you require support for you and your HCI student for attendance and class engagement, please reach out to their alpha VP and we will put a plan in place.

- Fair --> We are excited to announce that Humberside will be having a Post Secondary Fair on Monday October 26th! All Grade 11 and 12 classes will be invited to come to the Cafeteria to visit the fair during their second period class. All grades will be invited to come at lunch to the Cafeteria. This will be an excellent opportunity for students to explore various post secondary options, visit the booths and ask the representatives questions about their school, specific programs and scholarship opportunities. We encourage you to chat with your student about the fair before and after the event to help them make the most out of their experience! For a complete list of schools that will be in attendance, please click HERE.
Humberside Celebrates
HCI Heat Club --> Did you know we are a Platinum Eco School? While it is everyone's responsibility as a Humberside Citizen to support the environmental work at HCI; our HCI HEAT club has been hard at work setting up our recycling program and beautifying our grounds and taking care of pollinator gardens - have a look at all the Fall planting that has taken place in the garden in the key!
Academic Information
Literacy and Writing Help at HCI --> The English department hosts the Literacy Help and Writing Club every Tuesday at lunch in room 302 from 11:50 - 12:30pm. We're here to support students who are writing the OSSLT, who have university applications to write, or who simply want to grow as a writer. We also host Poetry Club for those budding writers who want to delve into the world of art. All are welcome to reach out to Mr. Tremblay or Ms. Fenn should they wish to participate in either.
School Business
School Messenger App --> Parents and Caregivers of students under the age of 18 are asked to ensure they are reporting attendance in a timely manner using the School Messenger App (this app is for parents/guardians ONLY) to report student absences or lates. For the security of safe arrival absence reporting, parents/guardians should set up a Personal Identification Number (PIN) per student. This pin will be required when reporting and explaining absences for this student by phone and will provide an extra level of security and prevent students from reporting their own, unauthorised, absences. Please view the School Messenger Parent/Guardian 4 digit code for instructions on this process.
Special Education--> Completed Individual Education Plans (IEPs) will be going home with students at the end of next week. IEP's are a working document and we welcome your feedback throughout the semester. Should you feel that you need further consultation on the IEP, please reach out to your child's alpha guidance counsellor or alpha VP and they will put in touch with the correct special education teacher.
