International Baccalaureate (IB) - Primary Years Programme (PYP) 

J.R. Wilcox CS is an accredited IB World School offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP). 

We are one of three TDSB elementary schools to deliver the Primary Years Programme to students from Kindergarten to Grade 6. The programme focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer. All students in Kindergarten to Grade 6 who attend J.R. Wilcox take part in the PYP program.

 IB Mission Statement

The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THE IB PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME 

The PYP is a student-centred, inquiry-based program:

-exploring, wondering and questioning 
-experimenting and playing with possibilities 
-researching and seeking information 
-collecting data and reporting findings 
-clarifying existing ideas and re-appraising events 
-deepening understanding through the application of a concept or rule 
-making and testing theories 
-making predictions and acting purposefully to see what happens 
-elaborating on solutions to problems.
