Reading Partnerships

Grade 1 Book Take Home Program

Since 2000, in cooperation with school boards and library organizations across Canada, the Canadian Children’s Book Centre (CCBC) has given every Grade One student a free Canadian children’s book.  This far-reaching annual book giveaway program is fully funded by TD Bank Group.

This year, Grade One children nation-wide will take home My Heart Fills with Happiness, written by Monique Gray Smith, illustrated by Julie Flett, and published by Orca Book Publishers.  In honour of 2019 being named the International Year of Indigenous Languages, this edition includes Plains Cree text (translated by Mary Cardinal Collins).  This beautiful book serves as a reminder for little ones and adults alike to reflect on and cherish the moments in life that bring us joy.

This book is to be taken home to keep and read with parents and loved ones.  We hope you will take the time to enjoy this wonderful story with your child over and over again for years to come!
