Volunteer Requirements for School Activities

To ensure student safety, the Toronto District School Board requires specific police background checks for all volunteers. Please follow the process outlined in the "NEW Volunteer Process (1) (1).pdf" document.

Types of Police Checks

  • In-School & Day Trip Volunteers: Require a Level 2 Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC). This check is free but requires a signed letter on official school letterhead confirming your volunteer role within the vulnerable sector.

  • Overnight Trip & Coaching Volunteers: Require a Level 3 Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC). The fee for this check is $26.72.

How to Apply

  • Apply online via the Toronto Police Service website using the TDSB Code 202309TPSOND7EFC.

  • This code is only for Toronto residents; if you live outside Toronto, you must apply through your local police service.

Submitting Your Results

  • Do not give copies of your clearance to the school.

  • Email a scanned copy to policereferencecheckoffice@tdsb.on.ca.

  • Include your school's name and the following exact declaration in the email body: "The attached document is a copy of the original, and it has not been altered in any way."
