Parenting and Family Literacy Centre

Pleasant is the site of a very active and dynamic Parenting and Family Literacy Centre. Parents and caregivers with infants and children, 0 to 6 years of age can attend these free programs four days a week, from Monday to Thursday. The centre introduces parents positively to the school system and delivers a range of play-based, problem solving activities in a culturally sensitive environment. A ‘Readiness to Learn’ program is offered and parents are educated about child development, community resources and how they can best support their child’s learning through a family literacy and numeracy program. Anyone is our community is welcome to attend. Come and join us.

Music Enrichment

We have a Pleasant Choir that participates in a Family of Schools Festival in April and one group of students who are part of the Family of Schools Choral Project that will perform in February. We have a full-time visual arts and music teacher who supports our students. Students are developing important skills and abilities that have a positive impact on their attitudes and progress at school and their appreciation of the arts. All of these special initiatives will culminate in several school performances that parents will be invited to attend.

Extended French

Pleasant offers full time bilingual French classes from grades four to six. Students learn the French language, and the Arts and Social Studies in the French language for half a day. During the other half of the day they learn Language Arts, Math, Science and Technology in English. Students are taught by specially trained teachers and are able to continue their bilingual studies in middle school and high school. This year the online application process begins in January.  All students in the nearby elementary schools are eligible to apply. For more information please visit the Boards Website and look under Programs.

Eco-school

Pleasant has been and will continue to be an eco-friendly school.  This means we take part in recycling, reusing, and other initiatives to help our students leave less of an ecological footprint behind them.  If you are interested in being a part of the Eco-team at Pleasant, please speak to Mr. Lederman to find out more.

Technology

Our school is equipped with many SMARTBoards, Promethean Boards, LCD Projectors, Laptops, Document Cameras and IPAD2's; which we are using to further enrich and engage our students learning experience.
