We are a small TDSB Alternative school that offers students a different approach to high school and a supportive engaging learning environment that works for you. With classes in Art, Media Technology, English, Social Sciences, Math, Science, and Credit Recovery, we have what you need to graduate. Open to students from anywhere in Toronto; if you are between 16-20 years old you can find a place at SOLE to succeed.

Our Facilities

Located in Toronto's east end.

Steps from Coxwell station or the 506 streetcar, our school is on the third floor of Monarch Park Collegiate (accessible by stairs or elevator). Here are some of the resources we have available:

 

  • Small class sizes means plenty of time for one-on-one support with teachers.
  • Student-friendly fridge, daily snacks, and range for teacher-led cooking.
  • Part-time access to a social worker and a special education teacher.
  • We offer RCR2O in semester 2 for recovery of Grade 10 credits.

 

  • Set of Canon Rebel DSLRs, with additional portrait and zoom lenses.
  • Assortment of older still and video cameras to explore.
  • Green screen and other backdrops with four units of studio lighting.
  • Tripods, dollies, and a custom-built steadicam.
  • Lab of up-to-date Windows 11 desktop computers with 16 GB RAM.
  • Carts of Chromebooks for other classrooms.

 

 

  • Dedicated studio space with large tables, sink, and drying rack.
  • Equipment and materials for screen-printing and button-making.
  • Acrylics, watercolours, pastels, pencils, lots of different markers.
  • Assortment of magazines, books, and other stuff for collaging.

 

 

  • Shelves of novels, essays, short stories, and poetry by Indigenous authors.
  • Variety of fiction, non-fiction, books and graphic novels for independent study.
  • Access to Monarch Park Collegiate's school library.

 

 

  • Adjacent to Monarch Park and a short walk to Greenwood Park for outdoor learning.
  • Nearby two Toronto Public Library branches for extended research.
  • In contact with local organizations for guest visits and excursions.
