Parent's Guide and FAQ

Parent's Guide During the Pandemic

As the world undergoes a major pandemic, the TDSB is working to adapt to the changing health crisis and provide education and reassurance to students and their families across Toronto. We thank you for your patience and resilience during these difficult times, and we will continue doing our best to prepare students for the future, all while keeping them healthy and protected. In order to do so, we have faced many unprecedented changes, therefore in compliance with the province of Ontario and Toronto Public Health we have created a set of guidelines and new options to help keep our students, staff and families safe.

  • All students and staff are required to wear face masks. Exceptions will be granted due to medical reasons.
  • Shared facilities will not be available (gym, library).
  • Social distancing measures will be in effect (2m apart, floor signs).
  • Student must complete a daily self assessment prior to attending school.
  • No events (dances, assemblies, play days, fundraisers) are permitted.
  • No visitors are permitted, unless in the event of an emergency (one visitor per child).
  • Students will have lunch in their respective classrooms. All food waste is to be discarded at home.
  • Students that show COVID-19 symptoms and/or test positive for a temperature of 37.8 C or higher will be sent home.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions During the Pandemic

My child has a medical condition that makes it difficult for them to keep a mask on. Can they attend school without a mask?

Exceptions are made on a case by case basis. Please contact the school to inform our admin team so that we can successfully accommodate your child.

I registered my child for remote learning but if the situation gets better I would like to send them back to school. Is it possible to change my decision?

Currently there are no other opportunities to switch between Virtual and Brick and Mortar schools and vice-versa. If the opportunity to switch again does arise we will be notifying parents via e-mail.

My child normally participates in after school language programs. Will those programs resume?

Currently we are not running any before or after school programs and school extra curricular clubs. ILE courses are continuing virtually at the moment. More information on this can be found here: https://bit.ly/3rcimyp

I am concerned about sending my child back into the school building. What precautions are being taken to ensure students are safe?

All students (unless exempted) are required to wear a mask or face covering. Classrooms also have class target capacities in place, varying from different grades. Social distancing and mask wearing are strictly enforced on school property.

I have moved into the applicable zone of West Humber Junior Middle School. How do I register my child during the pandemic?

We are currently not accepting any in-person registrations for new students. To register your child, please click on the link here: https://tdsb.registration.ca.powerschool.com/platform

This registration process is mandatory for all students new to the school, whether they are new to the board or not. Once your online application has been received, our secretary will be reaching out to you to overview your application and finalize the process.

I am moving and my child will be attending another school. How do I register them there?

If you are moving prior to the start of the 2020/2021 school year, it is important to ensure your child gets enrolled in the school applicable to your new zone, ensuring them a spot. You must notify us and the other school of the move, then you must complete an online registration form (see link above if in TDSB zone) and ensure the new school is being selected. Once the new school has received the registration form online, your child will be confirmed to start school there. When moving outside of the TDSB other processes may be involved depending on the other school board.

I have not been receiving any school communications by phone and/or e-mail. What should I do?

If you are not receiving phone calls and/or e-mails from the school, it is most likely that the contact information we have on file is outdated. Please call our office between 8am-4pm Mon.-Fri. to notify our office staff of any changes to your contact information or address. It is crucial that we have a reliable means of communication with all parents.

I have chosen the Virtual Learning option, but my child is having trouble accessing their account. How can they do a password reset?

Please use the Shared Secret Password for Students format: nnnnddmm@Tdsb
nnnn=Last 4 digit of student number
dd=day of birth
mm= month of birth
@Tdsb
T is capital

Students can login to aw.tdsb.on.ca and login with student number and the shared secret word password
