I am thrilled to announce that Westmount has been awarded a $1,000 Youth Climate Action Grant from the City of Toronto!

Our project, Worm Works by The Dirt Squad, will be led by our Eco-Club. Through this hands-on learning experience, students will explore how vermicomposting reduces food waste, lowers greenhouse gas emissions, and enriches soil naturally.

Westmount students will learn how local actions connect to the City of Toronto’s Net Zero Strategy, and how young people can contribute to climate solutions in meaningful ways. By diverting organic waste from landfill and turning it into nutrient-rich compost, we are taking real steps toward supporting our city’s climate goals.

The enriched soil created through Worm Works will be used in our school courtyard and surrounding garden beds to plant and grow native species. This will help strengthen local biodiversity, support pollinators, and create a greener learning environment for our students.

Stay tuned for more updates as Worm Works gets underway!
