Important Dates: Your Grade 8 Transition Year – At a Glance

(This is a general overview for your academic year.) 

November

• Grade 8 to 9 Transition Information Session for Grade 8 Families (November 1, 2021)
• Attend your Elementary School Transition Event (if applicable)
• Attend the Secondary School Virtual Open Houses and Information Nights 
• Review the Beyond 8 - Grade 8 to 9 Transitions Resources
• Students with special education needs for whom a change in setting or program is being considered for grade 9 should be discussed at the School Support Team (SST) meeting (this meeting will occur with the parent(s)/guardian(s) and the SST)
• Optional Attendance Forms are available (November 1, 2021)
• Research Specialized Schools and Programs, Alternative Schools and Local Programs in the TDSB
• Parent/Teacher interviews

December

• Attend the Secondary School Virtual Open Houses and Information Nights  
• Research Specialized Schools and Programs, Alternative Schools and Local Programs in the TDSB

January

• Attend the Secondary School Virtual Open Houses and Information Nights
• Research Specialized Schools and Programs, Alternative Schools and Local Programs in the TDSB 
• Grade 8 to 9 Annual Reviews for all students with an Exceptionality (e.g., regular class or special education class)
  • Secondary Student Transition Planning*
• Offers for grade 9 ISP programs will begin (e.g., congregated and integrated sites) (week of January 24, 2022)
• Optional Attendance Forms due at secondary school (January 28, 2022)
• Grade 8 Course Selection Opens (including students with special education needs) via myBlueprint(January 31, 2022)

February

• Deadline for parents/guardians of students to be informed of the status of the Optional Attendance Application (February 11, 2022)
• Parents/guardians must inform the requested school of their acceptance of the Optional Attendance offer via email and submit course selections via myBlueprint (February 22, 2022)
• Parent/Teacher interviews

May / June

• Grade 8 Transition Events at TDSB High Schools
• Grade 8 Graduation

*Changes to Transition Planning will be updated, as per COVID-19, Public Health and TDSB Recommendations, on an ongoing basis.
