General Information for Parents

Parents want the best education for their children. Our goal is to provide your family with a positive learning environment, with a variety of programs and services that promote outstanding student achievement.

Parents are children's first and life-long teachers. We value the partnership between home and school and know that parental involvement is the key to success in school. You can be involved by helping your child with homework, volunteering in our school, or joining our school council. By welcoming you and providing opportunities for you to be involved, we can work together to ensure that our students receive the very best education.

Visit the links on this page to find more information on a variety of subjects from the TDSB website:

Please also note that a number of White Haven specific topics can be found in the "School Policies and Guidelines" section of the website, as well as your White Haven Family Handbook.  Parents are asked to contact the school if they did not receive a copy in September.  Additional information about local school traffic concerns and visitor protocol at White Haven are listed below.

Traffic at White Haven

White Haven is a community school. If you wish to bring your child to school we ask that you walk rather than drive.  This will minimize the traffic concerns at the front of the school and promote physical activity. The Parking Lot is only for staff members.  Please do not park or drop your child off in the parking lot. If you absolutely must drive your child to school or pick your child up at the end of the day, please use the circular driveway at the front of the school by driving to the end of the circular driveway and letting your child out at the curb.  Please do not stop in the middle of the lane.  Driving in an organized manner will help to minimize our safety concerns.

Please also remind your child that he/she must exit the car as safely as possible when being dropped off because cars are continually moving in the circular driveway. Due to the huge safety concern, children are not allowed to walk across our circular driveway, but must walk instead to the end of the circular drive to cross over to the school.

Visitors To Our School

We are very fortunate that the safety of students at White Haven has never been compromised by the presence of a stranger in our school.  However, the safety of our students and staff is paramount, and so we consistently reevaluate our procedures. Please note that all doors will be locked at all times during the school day.  This means that if you come to pick up your child at the end of the day, you must meet him/her outside the doors through which his/her class enters and exits from.  If you need to pick him/her up during the school day, please come to the office and your child will be called down.  We will be vigilant in our implementation of the safety procedures that are currently in place. As such, this also means that adults who do not work or volunteer at White Haven will not be permitted to walk through the halls.

When you have an appointment to see your child’s teacher, please come to the office and sign our Visitor’s Book and receive a “Visitor’s Pass”.  We realize that there are some parents who are not “strangers” to us, but it is important that all parents adhere to these safety precautions and recognize that this policy must apply to all adults. If for some reason you are unable to locate your child, please come to the office and we will use the public address system to find them.
