Principal Update - 2021-2022

September 24th, 2021

Good evening Parents/Guardians,

I wanted to share some important news from Toronto Public Health (please see the letter attached from TPH) with regards to a confirmed COVID case within one of our Developmental Disabilities classes. Toronto Public Health has now declared an outbreak within this class.  An outbreak is declared when there are at least two confirmed cases of COVID-19 within a 14-day period and with a link to a school setting.

As you know, we shared news of a confirmed case within one of the classes with you recently. As a result of this new case, TPH has asked a student within this class to self-isolate. As TPH had no similar concerns for the remainder of the class or school no other staff or students in that class have been asked to self-isolate.  The declaration of the outbreak in the school has not required any additional measures to be taken for now.

I know news of an outbreak will, understandably, be worrisome for families. Please know that our school continues to take all the necessary precautions including self assessment requirements, the use of HEPA filters, enhanced cleaning, the requirement of students and staff to wear masks/face coverings, practicing physical distancing to the greatest extent possible and encouraging proper hand hygiene (washing hands, sanitizer, etc.) and respiratory etiquette (coughing/sneezing into you arm, etc.).

I also want to reassure you that the school remains open and students and staff may continue to attend.

As always, should Toronto Public Health believe any additional steps or communications are required, we will let you know as soon as possible. Should you have any questions, please call the school or the TPH Hotline at 416-338-7600, or call Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000. Please visit www.toronto.ca/COVID19  for information for parents that you may find helpful.

Sincerely,

Donna Drummond
