Dear Alumni, Current Teaching Faculty, Support Staff, Students and Friends:

I am sure you are aware, on Monday, May 6th a fire broke out forcing students and staff to evacuate from York Memorial CI. Early Tuesday morning, at approximately 3:30 a.m. a second, more serious fire was reported at the school. This fire required a 6-alarm response and the result was devastating damage to our beloved York Memorial Heritage listed Building.

As a result of these recent events, the York Memorial Alumni Committee has decided to put on hold the 90th YMCI Reunion. We recognize that our primary focus and attention should and must be put on ensuring the needs of the student and staff, who have felt the immediate impact of this loss are met.

As a member of the Alumni Committee and the Principal of York Memorial CI. I would like to extend personal thanks and gratitude to all of you who have sent students, staff and kind words of support. In addition, we have been inundated with many offers of donations in various forms to which we give thanks for your kindness and generosity.

Please note, the Alumni Committee intend to host an official 90th Reunion and many alumni have reached out to help support a planned event. We simply ask for time to ensure that students and staff are settled and able to finish out what has been an enormously challenging and emotional last few weeks of the school year.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Welcome to York Memorial’s Alumni Website!

York Memo AlumniI am honoured and privileged to be the leader of a school with such an amazing legacy and history of excellence. Since my arrival here to York Memorial C.I. in September 2017, I have learnt thorough my interactions with staff and students what an incredibly special place York Memorial Collegiate Institute truly is!

A school built to honour the fallen young shoulders, whose sacrifices have helped enable us to enjoy the freedoms and rights that we have today, our commitment to continue the legacy of demonstrating courage, self-determination and the giving to others lives on. We are proud of our rich history and as such continue to offer creative programming that challenges students to be progressive thinkers and leaders and to prepare them for the challenges of the future. Thanks to the outstanding staff, students, administrators, support staff, parents and alumni, our school continues to be a place of higher learning, that values the development of not only the intellectual, physical and emotional well-being of each student but the morale character of individuals that will shape the future of our society.

This school year marks two major anniversaries here at York Memorial C.I. The first is Armistice Day in which we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the ending of World War One. This year Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday fall on the same day. Sunday, November 11th. Remembrance Day has always had a special significance here at YMCI and so this year in marking the 100th Anniversary of Armistice, we plan to honour of all those men and women who have served and continue to serve our country in an extra special way.

Our second major anniversary takes place in spring 2019 .  On May 6th 1929 Sir William Mulock laid the cornerstone to the building that we have here today, and in May 2019 York Memorial C.I. will be celebrating its 90th Anniversary.  Celebratory planning is currently underway, details of which will be provided on this website, when they are available.

As York Memorial’s Principal I encourage you to participate in building the York Memo Alumni connection through this website.Whether you are a former student alumni, current student, former or current teacher, administrator or support staff, we encourage you to use our network to communicate with other York Memo Alumni.

Through the use of technology, we can bring thousands of graduates and former teachers and administrators together in one connection point. You can use this site to connect with old friends, post notices and network with each other.
