Principal's Message

Derrydown Public School first opened its doors to welcome students in 1964. Within the last 50 years, this school has maintained a reputation as being a positive location for teaching and learning in the community. We currently offer both an English program and an Early French Immersion program for students in grades JK to 5. In addition to our regular programs during the school day, we also offer International Language classes, extra-curricular sports activities, various clubs and academic support for all students.

Students, staff and parents in our school community represent many countries throughout the world. This diversity is both respected and celebrated on a regular basis and this sets a positive tone for our school where everyone is welcomed, valued and accepted.

In order to create and maintain a positive learning environment, students are expected to abide by our code of conduct. The school code of conduct includes a commitment to come to school prepared to learn, respecting others and our school community and also agreeing to follow school rules and expectations.

We acknowledge that parent involvement makes a difference. Parents are encouraged to actively participate in all school activities throughout the school year. Our rich parent involvement coupled with community partnerships has enabled us to hold special events and offer various specialized programs that help engage students during the school day and after school. These activities include Dance-A-Thons, Community BBQ, Hot Lunches, Pancake Breakfast and our annual Fun Fair just to name a few.

The mission of the Toronto District School Board is to enable all students to reach high levels of achievement and to acquire the knowledge, skills, and values they need to become responsible members of a democratic society. At Derrydown we strive for high levels of achievement while supporting student well-being and we believe that together we can help all students to succeed.
