At Derrydown, we work together to maintain a nurturing, structured and safe environment. We promote respect for our school, students, staff and community. We appreciate and celebrate our diversity, and foster further understanding of it.

Continuous learning and professional development opportunities are promoted for all. We endeavour to meaningfully involve staff and community in decision making.

Parents are key to student success. We strive to strengthen our relationships with the community. We value meaningful communication between all partners in learning.

TDSB Consequences of Inappropriate Student Behaviour

Progressive Discipline is a whole-school approach that utilizes a continuum of interventions, supports, and consequences to address inappropriate student behaviour and to build upon strategies that promote positive behaviours.

(TDSB Operational Procedure: PR 702)

Students who have not followed Derrydown's Code of Conduct may experience a variety of consequences based on the severity, frequency of the misbehaviour, the student's age, and ability to understand/control his actions. Also, staff/administration "must take into account the needs of the individual student by showing sensitivity to diversity, to cultural needs, and to special education needs." Consequences may include the following:

  • Parental contact and involvement in applying an appropriate remedy
  • A conference with Principal/Vice-Principal
  • Attendance/performance/behaviour contracts
