Welcome to Secord Elementary

at secord elementary school, a kindergarten to grade 5 dual-track school offering both english and french immersion programs, students have access to rich learning opportunities in both official languages. early french immersion (beginning in junior kindergarten) and middle french immersion (beginning in grade 4) are two system-wide intensive french programs. in both programs, students develop proficiency in the french language by studying french as well as other curriculum subjects taught in french. les élèves apprennent le français dans un environnement encourageant et inclusif. chaque jour, ils gagnent la confiance en parlant, en lisant et en écrivant en français tout en découvrant une nouvelle langue et culture. these programs are designed for families who do not speak french at home and provide students with meaningful opportunities to become confident bilingual learners.

across both the english and french immersion tracks, we are committed to creating an inclusive, welcoming, and engaging learning environment where all students feel valued, heard, and empowered to thrive. our work is guided by a shared belief that every child can succeed, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that learning is meaningful, responsive, and centred in equity.

we proudly co-create inclusive spaces that celebrate indigenous excellence by integrating indigenous perspectives, pedagogies, and ways of knowing throughout our classrooms and school culture. this includes building strong relationships, creating authentic learning experiences, and honouring the stories, contributions, and ongoing presence of indigenous peoples—past, present, and future.

our focus on raising achievement in literacy and mathematics is supported by evidence-based instructional practices. in classrooms, this includes small-group instruction, explicit teaching strategies, the use of culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy (crrp) resources and texts, differentiated learning opportunities, and ongoing assessment to inform instruction. at the school level, we foster collaboration through professional learning communities (plcs), grade-team planning, and continuous professional learning to strengthen teaching and student achievement.

we recognize that strong partnerships between home and school are essential to student success. through regular communication, collaboration with families, and a commitment to student well-being, we work together to ensure every learner is supported, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential.
