At Secord Elementary, our goal is to improve the percentage of students who meet or exceed benchmarks on the Fall and Winter Literacy Screener. We are committed to ensuring that every student develops strong literacy skills that support success across all areas of learning.

Our teachers work collaboratively in Professional Learning Communities to plan and deliver a 90-minute daily balanced literacy program aligned with the Ontario Language Curriculum.

• Small group instruction focused on decoding, fluency, and language
• Writing activities that involve creating, revising, editing, and proofreading texts across all curriculum subjects
• Culturally Responsive and Relevant Pedagogies that source texts which highlight Indigenous and Black Excellence
