Alvin Curling Public School

Welcome to Alvin Curling P.S.

Growing Roots, Building Futures

2025 – 2026 WELCOME BACK TO ALVIN CURLING PS!

On behalf of the staff at Alvin Curling PS, I would like to extend a warm and friendly welcome to our students and families. We trust that you had a wonderful summer break with your children and that you were able to enjoy many shared activities. We look forward to welcoming students and families back on Tuesday, September 2nd. The entry bell rings at 8:40am. You will receive an email from the school on Friday, August 29 that states which class your child is in.

It is a privilege and honour to be the principal of Alvin Curling PS. I am excited about the opportunity to contribute and collaborate with such a strong school community. I have heard many positive comments from both the staff and the parent community of your commitment to support an excellent academic program and a wide variety of co-curricular activities. It is exciting to be a part of a school community that believes in all students receiving a “well rounded” education.

I am excited to be starting my 27th year as an educator. I have taught a variety of grades and spent several years as an elementary guidance counsellor at multiple schools. As an administrator, I was vice-principal at Gordon A. Brown MS and Joseph Howe Sr. PS prior to my time as a principal at William G. Miller PS, Dr. Marion Hilliard Sr. PS & Fleming PS. I am very proud of what the staff, students, and community accomplished during that period.

There are a few ways to stay connected with the school. I will be sending a weekly update, Curling Connection, to the school community using the TDSB’s automated email messaging system. Please ensure the school has your up-to-date email address. Our website, https://schoolweb.tdsb.on.ca/alvincurling, and X/Twitter account, @CurlingTDSB , are two other ways to stay informed. Make sure to follow us for updates!

In preparation for the first day of school on Tuesday, September 2nd. I encourage you to spend a few minutes to review the following:

  • 2025 – 2026 WELCOME BACK SLIDESHOW – Contains information about the first day routine, staying for lunch, pedestrian safety, and plenty of other valuable school information.
  • Welcome Back BBQ & Meet Families Evening on September 18.

We encourage parents/guardians to be involved in their children’s education by supporting our School Council. Education is a partnership between parents, students, teachers, and school administration. Your participation in the council will give you the opportunity to strengthen that partnership, and to be part of a diverse team working to support your child’s education. Your involvement can make a difference! Our first meeting will take place on Thursday, September 25th at 6:30pm.

My door is always open. Please do not hesitate to contact the school’s office or send me an email (matt.johnston@tdsb.on.ca) if you have any questions or concerns.

Best wishes for a great start to 2025 – 2026 school year,

Matt Johnston

Principal
