Library Learning

Anson Taylor’s library doors are almost always open, and the steady stream of customers during September shows how eager your children are to read, whether it’s their ‘official’ library day or not. It is wonderful to see so many children coming by to return their books and discover new literary treasures on a frequent basis. The junior students in particular are aware of new releases, current bestsellers and the top picks for 'tweens in Canada. Anson's students know that the school library provides just a small sampling of what the larger, public libraries can offer. Classes from Grades 2 - 6 have all been shown how to order specific books online via the Toronto Public Library website (www.torontopubliclibrary.ca) so that their personal favourites are available for their reading pleasure this summer and always.

Besides being environmentally friendly (books can be ‘reused’ hundreds of times) and convenient in terms of hours and location, public library lending is also far more economical for parents than constantly purchasing books your children request. Graphic novels are particularly in demand in Anson’s library, which means their availability is limited. Please consider several visits to Woodside Library this school year, where the multi-lingual librarians can explain how best to access the extensive graphic novel collections available through free ordering. They can also recommend current bestsellers that might expand your child’s reading interests.
