When Parents/Guardians get involved in their child's education and school life, the possibilities and benefits are endless! From increased student achievement, to enhancing experiences and opportunities your involvement makes a huge difference.
There are many ways to get involved in your child's school life. You can volunteer at Chartland such as volunteering on school field trips, reading to students and helping to organize school events. Also, you are invited to attend and participate in our school council where you can be involved in learning about our school and help make it a greater place for our students.
What is the purpose and function of the School Council?
The School Council is a mandatory advisory body for schools across Ontario. The purpose of a School Council is through the active participation of parents, to improve student achievement and to enhance the accountability of the education system to parents (Reg. 612/2.1).
Membership consists of:
- parents,
- teacher(s),
- Principal/Vice Principal,
- support staff,
- community representative(s),
- secondary school students, (elementary where appropriate);and
- representative from the Ontario Home and School Association, if such a group exists in the school. (Reg. 612/3.8)
The School Council advises the Principal and the Board on a variety of issues and activities relating to student achievement, curriculum goals and priorities, school budget priorities, school safety, renovation plans, after school activities, and criteria for selection of new principals.
How can I get involved in Chartland's School Council?
We invite you to take an active role in your child’s education by attending out School Council meetings. Your involvement in the Chartland’s School Council gives you the opportunity to be a part of a team of parents like you, community members, teachers and administration dedicated to ensuring our students have rich and enjoyable teaching and learning experiences at Chartland. As a school council member you can contribute in different ways to the education of students in our school. Your participation does make a difference. You are invited to attend all of our meetings which are informal and informative!
