The morning snack is served in the classroom in the morning between the morning bell and morning recess. Students are offered three food groups: fruit or vegetables, whole grains and dairy according to the daily requirements from Canada’s Food Guide. The program is universal and available to every student in our school. It is delivered 5 days a week.
Current research demonstrates that children who eat healthy food are more able to learn in the classroom. Students participating in nutrition programs are able to concentrate, retain and apply information more effectively and demonstrate positive behaviour. The Toronto District School Board through its Nutrition Foundation Statement recognizes the direct relationship between healthy nutrition and academic achievement.
