School Council Election By-Laws 2020-2021

Parent Engagement and School Community
The Claude Watson School for the Arts School Council provides a forum for parents and guardians to participate in school life, share perspectives and contribute to discussions about school priorities.
School Council works collaboratively with school administration and staff to support student achievement, well-being, artistic opportunities and a positive school community.
What Does School Council Do?
School Council serves in an advisory capacity, providing recommendations to the principal and, where appropriate, the Toronto District School Board.
Through meetings, consultation, community activities and fundraising initiatives, Council helps strengthen connections among families, staff and the wider school community.
All CWSA parents and guardians are encouraged to participate in School Council meetings and share their ideas.

School Council Meetings
School Council meetings provide opportunities for families to learn about school activities, discuss matters affecting students and contribute to school improvement.
Meeting information and invitations are shared with families through CWSA Weekly Announcements.
Parents and guardians are welcome to attend meetings, whether or not they are elected Council members.
Getting Involved
Families interested in participating in School Council, volunteering or contributing to school community initiatives are encouraged to contact the School Council through the school office.
We value the time, experience and perspectives that families bring to CWSA.
School councils are an excellent way for parents to get involved in their child`s education. Our school has an elected school council that is an important forum for involving all members of the school community in issues that affect the education of students. The school council is made up of an elected committee of parents, staff and student representatives, appointed community members, the principal, and a general membership which includes all parents of children attending the school. The school council advises the principal on a variety of issues and activities relating to student achievement, curriculum goals and priorities, school budget priorities, school safety, renovation plans, after school activities, and criteria for selection of new principals.
