Information for Families of Students Participating in the Cross Country Team Meet:
If your child will be competing at the South Conference Cross Country Meet on Wednesday, October 7th at Sunnybrook Park, please note that all athletes in Grades 1 – 8 are asked to meet in the yard at 8:00 am and line up on their class lines.
We will be travelling by school bus to the Meet. Most students will be back by the end of the day, but please note that if your child is in an older grade and races are running late there is the possibility that they will have to return back with a coach by TTC. School buses have after-school routes that they must be on time for. If this happens, we will communicate with parents/guardians.
The Cross Country Meet takes place rain or shine, so please make sure your child arrives on time and is dressed appropriately for the weather. They will be outside the entire day.
Your child must wear running shoes, shorts or track pants, a T-shirt, a hat, and sunscreen. A team uniform will be provided to your child on race day.
If your child has a life-threatening allergy or asthma, they must carry their EpiPen and/or inhaler on them during the race.
All students in grades 1 - 8 must have a snack, a water bottle, and a lunch with them in their backpack. All lunches should be boomerang lunches. Please pack extra water and extra food.
If you would like to volunteer, please email Stacy Swire @ stacy.swire@tdsb.on.ca as soon as possible. You can arrive with your child on the Meet Day. You will be assigned to your child’s class. Please see Stacy Swire to check in. Thank you for volunteering. We will have a brief volunteer meeting before leaving.
For parents who are coming to the Meet to cheer on the team, please see the schedule below for race times. Please follow the directions as to which parking lots can be used by parents to avoid interfering with the school buses and the race routes.
STUDENT SAFETY IS OUR FIRST PRIORITY. WE KINDLY ASK PARENTS AND SUPPORTERS WHO ARE COMING TO CHEER TO NOT STAND AT THE FINISH LINE AND TO NOT REMOVE THEIR CHILD FROM THE EARL BEATTY AREA WITHOUT INFORMING A COACH. PARENTS CANNOT BE ON THE RACE ROUTE OR ON THE LARGE FIELD NEAR THE START AND FINISH LINES.
NEW THIS YEAR - PLEASE READ
All students must go to and from the Meet with the team and coaches on the school buses. We can not accommodate parents bringing students to the meet or taking students from the meet. Coaches have many responsibilities on race day, including the distribution of timing bibs, stretching and warming up each group, getting students to the start line, gathering students at the finish line, taking photographs, tracking results, dealing with first aid emergencies and race day anxiety issues and troubleshooting throughout the day. Trying to check a high volume of students in and out who are arriving or leaving with parents throughout the day and communicating that with all other coaches and our office staff at Earl Beatty each time adds additional responsibility. It also creates a tremendous amount of re-organization at the end of the day when we must redo groupings, etc. on the spot. In addition, we will be merging classes in the building, and we will not have the staff to safely supervise students returning early. Safety is our priority, and having students come and go is not safe.
