Equinox School Council

Volunteers are the backbone of our community

Our Contribution

The Equinox Holistic Alternative School Council is a group of volunteers contributing our skills and time and care to ensure our parent and guardian community is engaged and that our teachers and school staff are supported. We are advocates for Holistic Curriculum, outdoor and land-based education, environmental stewardship and anti-oppression work in education. We are also committed to raising compassionate kids as a community.

We welcome your questions and contributions, please say hi at the school fence or email us at chair@equinoxschool.ca.

Thinking about supporting our school by volunteering with Equinox School Council?
Please do! School council is formed within the first weeks of each new school year and the term is one year. Because we’re such a small community, positions are generally acclaimed so there’s no campaigning necessary.  Here is a look at the different roles and responsibilities on council to see where you might best fit. Thank you so much for considering!

Everyone in our school community is welcome and wanted at our School Council meetings.

They’re quick and online and friendly and are a nice touchstone. Mark your calendars and watch your inbox for the zoom link a day or two before each meeting.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

SEWING SUPPORT – Are you or someone you know game to sew some fun DIY guitar cases? Our music teacher Anna has some ideas and needs some sewing fingers to bring them to life. Email school council if you might like to help: chair@equinoxschool.ca

TEAM EGG SUPPORTER – While not a school council program, the parent volunteers who do the heroic work of weekly egg sales could use some help. Could you be a carton runner or do you like tracking payments at home in a spreadsheet? There are different ways to pitch in and you will be directly supporting a program that supports our school’s ability to do outdoor learning, holistic curriculum practices, cultural programming, and more. Email Team Egg if you might be able to lend a hand: thursdayeggs@gmail.com

WINTER FAIRIES – Volunteers are needed for the Winter Fair committee. This is a beloved Equinox tradition, a beautiful day for the whole school community with food, entertainment, and magical experiences for the children. And it’s a wonderful way to connect other community members, whatever your skills and talents: winterfair@equinoxschool.ca
