Parents and teachers have a common goal: a successful school year for every child. Your children are more likely to be successful in school if you are able to work with their teacher.
Here are some ways to develop a successful working relationship with your child's teacher:
- Introduce yourself to the teacher as early in the school year as possible. Teachers are back to school before the children and this might be a good time to call and arrange a 10 minute meeting. If you can't meet face to face, send a note, or arrange a phone appointment.
- Don't wait for problems to surface to establish a relationship with your child's teacher. Problems will be dealt with more efficiently and effectively if the teacher knows who you are.
- Speak positively about school in general and about your child's teacher, especially in your child's presence. Don't blame or criticize the teacher; that can't possibly be helpful.
- Schedule an appointment with the teacher as soon as you have a concern. If you have a concern, please speak to your child's teacher first. Call the office to arrange an appointment beforehand.
