Welcome Back!                                                                   September 2019

Dear Parent/Guardian:

On behalf of the Mackie staff I would like to welcome back returning families and extend a warm welcome to all the new families joining our school community.  The staff and I look forward to working with you and your children over the upcoming school year, as we endeavour to provide all of our students with positive and rewarding learning experiences.

Communication and cooperation between the home and school is essential for a successful educational program and is the reason we emphasize the use of the student agenda. Please take some time with your child to review our School Policies and Procedures you will have found emailed to you. Please make special note of entry times, student drop-off information, parking policy and our NUT-FREE/SCENT FREE policies. There will be a lot of information that will be shared with you, again electronically  and much information required during the first few weeks of school to ensure that we are able to contact you to meet the needs of your child(ren). We appreciate your prompt attention to these tasks. We are hoping to collect all of our forms responded to by: Friday September 13, 2019.

The placement of your child(ren) into classes this week is tentative to ensure that we have met the requirements set out for each and every school in the Toronto District School Board based on the caps for all primary classrooms.  The Ministry of Education has worked towards lowering class sizes in the primary grades to support student achievement.  Their goal is to have most Grade 1-3 classes capped at 20 students to a maximum of 23 students. Following this provincial mandate, the Toronto District School Board has developed guidelines in the development and organization of classes based on our projected student enrolments.  I will be working with my staff to ensure that the least amount of disruption happens for all of our students. Where there are larger discrepancies beyond the staffing allocated, a reorganization of classes may occur later in Sept.

I am looking forward to a successful year at Mackie and I look forward to greeting our families at our Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 25, at 6:30 pm. In addition, if you are interested in volunteering or getting involved with our School Council, please contact the school at 416-396-6265. Our first School Council meeting is Tuesday October 1, at 6:00 pm in our school library. Thank you for your ongoing support. I look forward to another year of learning together.
