Ionview Public School is an inner-city school in Scarborough which serves newcomers, young families, low income, and families requiring support from the school and its community.
Ionview has four permanent raised garden beds that are used by the students and enjoyed by the community. Two of the gardens have been used to grow produce from seeds planted by students. One of the gardens is currently growing a Three Sisters garden (with corn, squash and beans.)
To support garden maintenance, we have engaged our families with community garden events, bringing in students and parents to support with planting, weeding and watering.
We have connected with our local (Cliffcrest) Butterflyway Project to have an educator come to our school and teach our students about growing native plants to benefit butterflies, birds and bees in our gardens. They have assisted with careful curation of beneficial plants for our gardens and provided guidance on maintaining rich, healthy soil.
At Ionview we care for our students and their families. Make sure to read our weekly updates for important TDSB updates, pictures and school-wide events for the 2025/2026 school.
