JUNE 2026
We are pleased to share that the tender has been awarded for the LPCI field project, marking an important milestone as we move from planning into construction. The following information outlines what you can expect once work is underway:
- Field Closure: Once construction begins, the field area will be fully closed for safety reasons. LPCI is arranging for access to an alternative field to support physical education classes and extracurricular athletics during this period.
- Tree Removal: As part of the construction process, all trees in the impacted area were inventoried and assessed by an arborist. This assessment determined two (2) Norway Maple trees near the field will need to be removed due to poor health. Tree removal will take place at the beginning of construction, and two (2) new trees will be planted as the project nears completion.
- Portable Access: To accommodate the new field, one portable will be relocated to the east side of the other three portables. This will happen before the end of this school year. All four portables will be available for September.
- Other Improvements: As part of the field project, the existing sloped path and exterior stairs will be rebuilt, improving access to the field and portables. As a separate project, the basement washroom and change room accessed by Door 5B, close to the new exterior stairs, will be refreshed and made available to students during the school day.
- Field Use/Access: The field will be used by LPCI during the school day, as well as for before and after school practices, events and games. The Rugby Club will have use of the field Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings as well as Saturdays, from April to November.
We are hopeful that the new field will be ready for use in Spring 2027, however recognize these timelines are dependent on construction progress and weather conditions.
We understand that construction will bring temporary disruption to our normal routines at LPCI and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we move forward with an important investment that will provide our school and community with improved outdoor space for years to come.
DECEMBER 2025
TDSB has developed the modified field design option, with the field positioned to accommodate the addition of a future three-lane extended running track. View the modified field design.
OCTOBER 2025
As a result of feedback received from the community, and expressed interest in working to raise funds to contribute to a modified design option, TDSB will be proceeding with tendering two design options for the new LPCI field:
- the original approved design, and
- a modified option that includes a three-lane running track.
Preparing both designs will allow the TDSB to determine the precise cost difference between the two options. Preliminary estimates indicate that the modified design option with a three-lane track would cost approximately $1.1 million more than the original design. As the TDSB is not in a position to fund this additional amount, any cost difference would need to be covered through external donor contributions. School Council has begun preliminary discussions regarding the potential for a community-led fundraising effort in support of the project, as confirmation of funding would be needed by the end of January 2026 in order for the project to proceed as scheduled. We appreciate the continued engagement and support of the Lawrence Park community throughout this process and will continue to share updates on this site.
AUGUST 2025
We have received questions and concerns about the project—particularly its potential impact on the adjacent slope and nearby trees. TDSB staff are currently working with civil and structural engineers, along with our landscape consultant, to carefully explore all design options, which may result in changes to the design referenced in the June 2025 Update.
